Animal Husbandry  - Profile

Livestock development plays on important role in Perambalur next to Agriculture. One Regional Joint Director of AH Monitors the entire AH activities in Perambalurand Ariyalur Districts. The joint Director of AH is assisted in the field with one Asst. Director of AH who is having jurisdiction over both the districts.

There are 26 Veterinary Dispensaries, one mobile Veterinary Unit and one PHC., in Perambalur District each manned by one Veterinary Asst. Surgeon, One Livestock Inspector and two Animal Husbandry Assistants. In addition to that there are 36 Veterinary Sub Centers to give first aid and Artificial Insemination. Work manned by one Livestock Inspector.

CATTLE PROTECTION SCHEME

To create awareness among livestock owner 120 Cattle Protection camps are conducted in the remote villages to have veterinary aid at their door step to the livestock owners. They have been given Incentive such as prizes for the best, maintained animals at the Cattle Camps.

DISTRIBUTION OF FODDER MINIKITS

To popularize the fodder development activities protein rich fodder minikits were distributed to livestock owners free of cost

BACK YARD POULTRY SCHEME

Under the scheme a standard of 15 beneficiaries per panchayat union has been fixed. According from 10 Panchayat Unions of Perambalur district 150 beneficiaries have been selected.

One unit : 1 Cock + 9 Mens

Per Unit Cost : Rs600/- (including TA Rs 100)

Allotment : Rs 90,000/-

Subsidy : Schedule Caste : 50%, others : 331/3 %

CROSS BREED SHEEP DISTRIBUTION SCHEME

Under this scheme 75 Panchayat Unions have been selected in TamilNadu and it has been decided to distribute 750 sheep unit to 750 beneficiaries. Hence 50 units have been fixed in 10 Panchayat Unions of Perambalur District.

One Unit Cost : Rs.6000/- (including TA cost)

INTENSIVE RDVK VACCINATION

Camps were conducted to prevent mortality of desibirds from Raniket diseases in 447 villages of Perambalur District from 2.2.2002 to 14.2.2002 and 123956 birds were vaccinated during the Special Camps period.

DISEASES POSITION

Foot and Mouth, Anthrax and Sheep Pox Outbreak diseases are Prevalent in Perambalur District and they have been effectively controlled by this department taking prompt steps to prevent the prevalence of the disease by preventive vaccination and timely treatment.
